Official information calculators
Use the official information calculators to estimate the maximum response time for an official information request.
Generally, public sector agencies must answer official information requests within 20 working days. The primary exception to this is if a valid extension is made. You can find out about extensions in this guide.
This tool estimates the latest possible date that a response must be sent by an agency to requests for information made under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) and the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (OIA) requests. Agencies are obliged to respond to requests as soon as reasonably practicable and no later than 20 working days after the date of receipt.
Please note that regional anniversary holidays are not built into the LGOIMA calculator. If you made your LGOIMA request to a local government agency which observes a regional holiday between the date your request was received and the date generated by the LGOIMA calculator, add one working day to the latest date for a response
(Both calculators already account for public holidays and the Christmas and New Year holiday periods set out in the OIA and LGOIMA.)
For more information about the statutory changes that impact LGOIMA response times, please see the guide.
