The Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier's presentation to the New Zealand Aged Care Association's annual conference outlined the role of the Ombudsman in protecting the rights of detained people. He provided an overview of what is currently involved in examining and monitoring the treatment of people detained in health and disability places of detention, such as within hospitals, secure care, or aged care facilities. He also referred to the work being done to prepare for examining and monitoring the conditions and treatment of people detained in privately run aged care facilities, as mandated on 6 June 2018.
