From 19 to 30 August 2024, a team of eight inspectors made an announced visit to Auckland South Corrections Facility | Kohuroa.
Inspectors were guided by the Ombudsman’s Expectations for the conditions and treatment of people in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Inspectors gathered and assessed a range of information, including reviewing documents, interviewing a number of people, and observing Prison activities. This included visiting the Prison in the evening and during the weekend to observe specific aspects of Prison operations outside of typical business hours.
Before leaving the Prison, inspectors met with senior management to outline their initial observations.
