Storytelling resources help explain the Ombudsman’s role to children and young people in care

Issue date:

New child-friendly resources have been created to help Tamariki and rangatahi in care along with their whānau and caregivers to understand how the Ombudsman can help when something’s not right.

The resources include an animated video and a one-page comic, available in English and Te Reo Māori.

They tell a simple story- based on a real case from the report about a rangatahi in a care home who needed support to get a problem sorted out.

Children in care: complaints to the Ombudsman 2019–2023 | Ombudsman New Zealand

The story describes the Ombudsman’s Office as “a bunch of people who work to sort out problems where we can.” It shows how the Ombudsman listens, investigates and seeks to resolve problems.
