Issue date:

The Chief Ombudsman is pleased to launch today a new website which has been made for tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people) in the care or custody system.

The aim of Nau-mai.nz is to support tamariki and rangatahi in care and custody services. It has been made to help them voice their concerns about the services or support they have received from Oranga Tamariki or its care and custody providers.

Ombudsman staff will further support a sense of safety and whanaungatanga by listening carefully to children and young people who make contact and work to resolve their complaints.

The website has been carefully developed from research that has been done with care-experienced tamariki and rangatahi.

Some of the features of Nau-mai.nz include:

  • a simple online form for tamariki and rangatahi to send a few details so Ombudsman staff can make contact
  • child-friendly, billingual web content and naviagation in English and in Te Reo Māori
  • an animated video about how oversight works for the Oranga Tamariki system – it’s for those “feeling a little lost at sea”.  This has been made with Mana Mokopuna - Children and Young People’s Commission and Aroturuki Tamariki - the Independent Children’s Monitor.

Information for adults is still available on the main Ombudsman website.
