Thanks to those helping make disability rights real

Issue date:

With our Independent Monitoring Mechanism partners, we have just finished gathering your input on the state of disability rights in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We did this through a series of hui and a public survey that went out in several accessible formats.

Our thanks go out to everyone who participated, as you help make sure the voices of disabled New Zealanders will be reflected in our forthcoming report, Making disability rights real. Your time, passion and commitment have made a difference.

This report will be given to Parliament on 3 December 2019, and will tell them about the real experiences of disabled people, including barriers to participation and opportunities for change.

We’ll also give the report to the United Nations when they next review New Zealand’s implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Convention in brief – United Nations
