Training and education


We are able to provide training sessions on request, including:

  • the role of the Ombudsman, including the types of complaints the Ombudsman can investigate, tips for dealing with government agencies and the investigation process
  • the operation of the official information legislation in New Zealand i.e. the OIA, LGOIMA and the meetings provisions of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act
  • how to develop good administrative decision-making and complaints-handling processes
  • how to manage unreasonable complainant conduct 

Our training sessions can be tailored to your needs, whether it’s for more experienced staff, or ones who are new to the role and need a more intensive grounding.  We have worked with officials and teams within many organisations, including:

South Island training in 2013

We will be conducting training for agencies in the Otago and Southland areas in 2013. We are currently planning when and where the training sessions will be held, based on interest from participants.
